Paul Carman started his career at Eastman Kodak in 1978 and never really left the information management world. He went on to lead IMC (International Information Management Congress), served as AIIM Board Chair, helped bring IMC into AIIM through their 2000 merger, and now runs Xamcor, where he works on M&A in the information management space. In this episode, Paul talks with Tori Miller Liu about why he's stayed engaged with AIIM for almost five decades, whether the old line between "our" data (contracts, invoices, unstructured content) and the data analysts deal with still holds up now that AI needs everything digitized and machine readable, and why he thinks "information" is still the word that matters most no matter what the technology of the moment is called. He also opens up about receiving the 2026 AIIM Award of Merit and the surprise his family pulled off in Baltimore, and shares what he tells his MBA students about breaking into this field.
