AIIM Unveils Aidan: The First AI Search Assistant for Information Management Practitioners

Silver Spring, Maryland, USA – May 19, 2025 – The Association for Intelligent Information Management (AIIM) proudly announced the launch of “Aidan,” the first AI search assistant specifically designed for information management practitioners.

Now available in AIIM’s online member community at community.aiim.org, Aidan represents a significant advancement in making AIIM's collective knowledge base more accessible to members.

Developed in partnership with Higher Logic using IBM watsonx™ technology, Aidan utilizes Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) to access and synthesize content from across AIIM's digital ecosystem, delivering information in a conversational format that enhances user experience.

"AIIM is proud to be one of the first Higher Logic customers to use the new AI search assistant. We are an AI-first and AI-forward organization, committed to responsible experimentation and innovation in AI," said Tori Miller Liu, CIP, President & CEO of AIIM.

AIIM staff and members served as beta testers for Higher Logic as it developed the new search assistant, providing crucial feedback to optimize performance and usability.

Aidan provides AIIM members with instant access to a comprehensive knowledge base built on five years of research, white papers, tip sheets as well as community discussions and posts. The system intelligently retrieves and summarizes information from these trusted sources while leveraging large language model technology to enhance response quality and relevance.

The assistant draws from:

  • Five years of curated industry research
  • Professional white papers and technical guidance
  • Practical tip sheets and best practices
  • Community discussions and exchanges
  • Member-uploaded documentation
  • AIIM's complete resource library

For scenarios requiring human expertise, users can select "Ask your fellow humans" to generate discussion threads within the community.

"By making our community's collective expertise more accessible, we're helping information practitioners find solutions faster and more efficiently,” said Liu.

Aidan will be exclusively available to active AIIM members through the community portal at community.aiim.org. Members simply need to click the sparkle icon in the lower right corner of the interface or enter search terms in the main search bar to begin interacting with the assistant. AIIM extends special thanks to volunteers Kevin Denton, Lisa Rose, Anthea Ryan, and Helen Kutnikoff for their valuable testing and feedback during Aidan's development. Members nominated and voted on a name for the search assistant in April 2025.
