Digital Business Maturity Model

Posted by Atle Skjekkeland on Aug 5, 2014 6:38:26 AM

I was a few weeks ago at a Winning the Paper Wars event in Portugal with IDC and PaperSoft, which reminded me of the importance of driving paper out of business processes. Below is basic maturity model for digital business.

  • Level 1: Paper - you need to win the paper wars to get to next level. Paper is time-consuming and costly to work with and manage.
  • Level 2: Digital - electronic documents and images allows you automate processes using transactional content management (no human involvement) or smart process apps (extensive human involvement)
  • Level 3: Mobile - the IT platform is now changing from desktop to mobile, which allows you to evolve from mobile enabled to mobile-centric processes.
  • Level 4: Social - you can now connect people using mobile. Customer and/or staff can learn from each other with recommendations and ratings.

Welcome to my blog. My name is Atle Skjekkeland, Chief Evangelist at AIIM – the Association for Information and Image Management.

I am a modern day Norwegian viking fighting for how to best use technology to transform businesses. Join me explore how technology and information can be used to create a new reality, add value, reduce costs, or manage risk.

I have for the last 9 years lived with my family in "Vinland" - this is what the vikings used to call America when they discovered this continent hundreds of years before Columbus. But even vikings get homesick, and our new home is now in Kristiansand, Norway.

Join me to explore how to best transform businesses to become digital businesses. If I can help, contact me at askjekkeland@aiim.org.
