Job Title
Information Governance Manager
Organization
Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District
Can you give us a sneak peek into your AIIM18 Presentation?
People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care--everyone is your customer.
People may not remember specific projects you worked on together, but they'll always remember how you made them feel.
Fight the temptation to be comfortable; push past your quitting points.
Where do you see the information management industry in 5 years? What do you see as the next big impact?
I finally think we'll see the end of just about all paper-based processes in organizations. Just about every record and the document will be born digital. Some org's are already doing this, other's are not. And I can see virtual reality (VR) becoming more prevalent in organizational training. Where you don't simply watch the vignette, you're in the vignette!
What questions are you asked the most by your colleagues?
1. What is so great about Vermont anyway (my home state)
2. Why do you have so much energy?
3. Don't you ever get mad?
What are three things you’ve told yourself that kept you going during your darkest hour?
Well, that gets into matters of faith, and I don't want to get kicked out of the conference!
Would you quit your job if you won the lottery, even if you loved your current position?
Even if I did quit my job, I would volunteer and probably even work more hours. It's better to wear out rather than rust out.
What makes you excited about Mondays?
The same thing that gets me excited about Tuesdays-Fridays.
What do you dread most about going to work?
Trying to find the right clothes to wear.
Who has been your mentor in your working life, and what did they do/say that had the biggest impact on your reasoning?
Oddly enough, I've never had a person in my entire career who actually took a pro-active interest in me. And yes, I've never really sought out a mentor either. Probably the "best" piece of advice is when I spoke at my very first conference. My boss said: "Daly, anyone can speak about anything for 10 minutes; after that, you better know something."
Tell me about a project that forced you to be innovative and creative.
Well, right now (literally at this moment), our management team is writing a new dress code policy for our District. Instead of a stale PowerPoint to show the directors, we're going to have employees walk through the room with various policy infractions to see if the directors can spot the violations. (We think they'll miss most of them.)
What do you do for fun?
Running, basketball, and I pastor a small Baptist church.
What does your current workspace look like?
Make your plans to attend The AIIM Conference and gain access to three days of thought-provoking sessions geared to help your overcome your information management challenges.
