Future-Proofing Information Management Through Talent Development

The evolution of information management demands a new approach to talent development. As someone who transitioned from traditional librarianship to leading digital transformation initiatives, I understand the importance of continuous learning and adaptation.

Essential Skills for Modern Information Management

At the Central Bank of the Bahamas, we're focused on upskilling and reskilling our team members. Staff who previously specialized in physical records management now need expertise in:
- Digital records management
- Data privacy compliance
- Freedom of information requirements
- Data classification
- Automated retention systems

The Importance of Continuous Learning

Professional development isn't optional - it's essential for survival in this field. The skills needed today are vastly different from those required even five years ago. We leverage resources from organizations like AIIM for training and certification, ensuring our team stays current with industry developments.

Embracing Technology and Change

Being open-minded about technological change is crucial. While some view AI with skepticism, understanding its responsible use is vital. Success in modern information management requires embracing change while maintaining core principles of good governance.

Building Collaborative Teams

The future belongs to collaborative teams that can work across traditional boundaries. Information management professionals must partner with IT, information security, and business units to deliver comprehensive solutions. The days of working in silos are over.

This blog post is based on an original AIIM OnAir podcast. When recording podcasts, AIIM uses AI-enabled transcription in Zoom. We then use that transcription as part of a prompt with Claude Pro, Anthropic’s AI assistant. AIIM staff (aka humans) then edit the output from Claude for accuracy, completeness, and tone. In this way, we use AI to increase the accessibility of our podcast and extend the value of great content.
