CIP Task Force and Beta Testers Contribute to Updated Certified Information Professional Credential

Certified Information Professional (CIP)

AIIM debuted a new version of the Certified Information Professional (CIP) credential. As of November 27, 2023, AIIM is offering a new version of the exam, which reflects the skills needed for today’s information professionals.

About the CIP

The CIP is an internationally recognized information management certification. AIIM created the CIP in 2010 to recognize information professionals with the skills to protect and manage information and develop organization-wide strategies based on established methodologies and industry best practices. The CIP helps credential holders, and their organizations stand out in today’s information-driven world. To obtain a CIP credential, an information management professional must pass a proctored, 100-question multiple-choice exam. Certified professionals display “CIP” as a post nominal.

Updated Version of the CIP

The new version reflects established best practices in intelligent information management and forward-focused, emerging practices and technologies.

The newly updated exam features all new multiple-choice questions and includes new sections on artificial intelligence, large language models, intelligent document processing, and robotic process automation. AIIM also released an updated CIP Study Guide to help interested participant prepare for the exam.

Updating a credential is no easy feat, particularly when you are committed to following industry standards for credentialing programs.

The latest version of the exam was the result of months of work by industry thought leaders from around the world. The task force reviewed and updated the exam blueprint; authored new exam items; and provided strategic guidance. Led by standards expert Betsy Fanning, the task force included:
