[Podcast] A Small Problem with Big Data

Big Data  |  AIIM on Air

We have a small problem with Big Data...the majority of us just don't completely understand it. Sure, we've all heard the term "Big Data" - but I'm willing to bet if I asked a room full of people what it was, I'd get puzzled looks and shrugged shoulders from about half the room...and I'm sure I'd lose most of the other half of the room if I followed up that question by asking how to leverage big data for real business value.

So, why are so many of us in the dark about Big Data? I don't think it's our fault, in fact I think we were caught off-guard. According to IBM Analytics, 90 percent of the world's data was generated in just the last two years! It's this rapid explosion of data that explains why you're hearing so much about big data and why it's so difficult to understand.

So, don't feel bad if you feel a bit in the dark about Big Data, you're not alone. But, because it's such an important topic and there is value in learning about it, we called in the experts to dig deeper.

On this podcast episode, your host Kevin Craine talks to author and Big Data expert Marc Follenweider. They take a closer look at big data - what it is, what steps do businesses need to take, best practices and more!

Also on this episode, Kevin continues his "I Am AIIM" interviews with Lorne Rogers, an information management consultant with Aria consulting. Lorne discusses Enterprise Content and Records Management using SharePoint, OpenText Content Server, and more.
