OK, I have waited long enough for an invitation to do a Commencement Address and none have been forthcoming. (Although my wife does work in a church pre-school; I am holding out hope that this year's harvest of kindergarten wannabees will still tee me up.) The particular reason Commencements are on my mind is that our youngest is getting ready to graduate from High School. One of her older brothers has graduated from college and is out in the workforce (although about ready to go back for an MBA) and the other will graduate from college in December, the good Lord willing. So perhaps by auditioning through this blog post -- and by trying out my act on the Herndon United Methodist pre-Ks -- I will have a future chance for a Commencement address. I am especially lured by the idea of getting an honorary doctorate with no work.

The AIIM Awards Ceremony takes place every year, and it's our opportunity as an association to honor and recognize special members of our community for their contributions to AIIM and our industry. This year, the formal affair took place in Philadelphia on Tuesday, April 20th. A wonderful time was had by all. Bryant Duhon, the editor of AIIM's Infonomics Magazine, recently announced a fun little contest offering $2,000 to whoever could come up with the best 60-second video answering the simple question, "What is ECM?" The AIIM staff was completely blown away by the six submissions we received. Our community is so full of creative and talented folks. Make some popcorn, put your feet up, and enjoy the show:

I wanted to congratulate Abad Khushrooshahi, who I met at AIIM's Enterprise Content Management Seminar in Toronto, and who may very well be the most knowledgeable information management professional in North America. Abad works for Aegon Canada and recently completed our IOA (Information Organization and Access) course. What is notable about Abad is that I believe he is the first to complete ALL FOUR of our training specializations; Electronic Records Management (ERM), Enterprise Content Management (ECM), Business Process Management (BPM), and IOA.

We wanted to make the members of AIIM and ARMA aware of some strategic discussions that have been occurring over the past few months between the two organizations. In December 2005, the AIIM Executive Committee, with the full support of the AIIM Board, contacted ARMA's Executive Committee about AIIM's interest in meeting to discuss whether there might be ways to more closely align the two organizations to better address the needs of their respective members.
