The Info360 event taking place from March 21 – 24 in Washington, DC will be the final “AIIM” Show to bear the AIIM name. This is the culminating activity of an evolutionary course we began 10 years ago when we sold the event (known as the AIIM International Exposition and Conference) to Advanstar/Questex. It also marks the successful transition to the Info360 name for the event, a transition initiated by Questex 3 years ago.

Last year, David Meerman Scott and I had a discussion on his great blog about one of the core issues that we both run into. It's the question of whether to gate our eBooks behind a submission form or not. This is something I've struggled with both internally in my own work at AIIM and externally as we provide content sponsorships to our trade members.

Often in my presentations, I ask people whether they know that the Association I represent had its roots over 60 years ago in the microfilm business. I then proceed to talk about how our focus has always been about the management of unstructured information in the context of business processes, and then proceed to explain the migration from film to micrographics to images to documents to content.

We would like to take this opportunity to do three things. Firstly, report back to the readers of this blog and the broader content and records management community on the “State of the Association.” Secondly, but even more importantly, thank you for your support, involvement, and guidance during these challenging times. And lastly, take a moment on behalf of the Board and the staff to wish you and yours a very Happy Holiday and extend our best wishes for a happy and successful 2011.

OK, I have waited long enough for an invitation to do a Commencement Address and none have been forthcoming. (Although my wife does work in a church pre-school; I am holding out hope that this year's harvest of kindergarten wannabees will still tee me up.) The particular reason Commencements are on my mind is that our youngest is getting ready to graduate from High School. One of her older brothers has graduated from college and is out in the workforce (although about ready to go back for an MBA) and the other will graduate from college in December, the good Lord willing. So perhaps by auditioning through this blog post -- and by trying out my act on the Herndon United Methodist pre-Ks -- I will have a future chance for a Commencement address. I am especially lured by the idea of getting an honorary doctorate with no work.

The AIIM Awards Ceremony takes place every year, and it's our opportunity as an association to honor and recognize special members of our community for their contributions to AIIM and our industry. This year, the formal affair took place in Philadelphia on Tuesday, April 20th. A wonderful time was had by all.
