The AIIM Blog
Keep your finger on the pulse of Intelligent Information Management with industry news, trends, and best practices.
My name is Sean, and I used to find professional networking terrifying. The thought of it would make me cringe. I can remember being fresh out of college and attending a networking event with the hope of establishing some connections that could possibly lead to a job. Well, those were VERY high hopes, as I spent most of the night nervously hanging out by the food area awkwardly trying to engage anyone who went near the crab cakes. Needless to say, I didn't end up with a job offer that night. But, I did come to the realization that networking is not going away, and I could either keep being socially awkward, or I dedicate myself to developing this skill. With The AIIM Conference quickly approaching, I thought I'd share my best tips for networking so you can make the most of your time, when you'll be surrounded by 650 information professionals.

We introduced something new to The AIIM Conference in 2016, an element of social responsibility. As the VP of Events here at AIIM, it was incredibly important to me that we give something to a charity local to our host city of New Orleans that our attendees had created.

AIIM takes great pride in being an active member of our community. We’re always trying to find new ways to give back - we have staff volunteer days, make donations to charity for responses to our surveys, and have given our time at homeless shelters, food kitchens, working farms, charity runs/walks and clothing drives. Now, we want to get YOU involved in the giving during The AIIM Conference.

I am so excited about this year’s keynotes at AIIM Conference. They directly tie to the core rationale for the ENTIRE event -- and for that matter, the core reason why AIIM exists.

Here are 5 great books to help create a framework to understand the disruptive times that are ahead. As consumerization, mobile and cloud, and the Internet of Things sweep through our organizations over the next few years, some organizations will be prepared, agile, and thrive, and others will be left in the dust by competitors they never event imagined. The authors of these books will all also be speaking at AIIM15. Here’s the official AIIM15 must-read list:

The 5 Reasons You'll Want to Attend: The weather! Escape the polar vortex to beautiful San Diego. The Manchester Grand Hyatt has a fabulous pool with a stunning ocean view of the marina. Brian Solis will set you off on The Race to Digital Transformation. Brian is one of the true visionaries of our industry. Ditto Tom Koulopoulos and Gen Z (I saved a reason by combining these 2). Party on an aircraft carrier. We're throwing a celebration on the USS Midway for all AIIM15 attendees to hang out and get to know one another. (Yes, there will be free drinks!) Go on a safari, have breakfast with a koala, and swim with a polar bear. We’re just minutes away from the San Diego Zoo. (Just, you know, don’t play hooky from AIIM15!) Return home with the insights and knowledge you need to impress the guy responsible for your raises.
